The 2025 Le Gay is classy, elegant and polished. The purity of the fruit is just remarkable. I also sense a lighter hand with regards to extraction and oak, which really helps convey more Pomerol character while still exalting fruit. This is a sublime Le Gay. Yields were a minuscule 19 hectoliters per hectare. The 2025 underwent 12 days of cold soak followed by alcoholic fermentation in barrel, using indigenous yeast developed at the château, for about 15 days. Floral overtones perfume the finish. This is sublime stuff. Tasted two times.
Flowers, truffles, licorice, cherries, chocolate, and espresso are working together to create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is rich, concentrated, deep, dark, and creamy. The finish delivers layers of plums, dark chocolate, spice, espresso, and fresh, vibrant black cherries that last. Drink from 2030-2055.
Cassis, exotic red and blue fruits, spring flowers, graphite, and some chocolaty nuances all emerge from the 2025 Château Le Gay, a beautiful Pomerol based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that will spend 14 months in new barrels. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It might be one of the finest vintages of this cuvée I've tasted, so hats off to the team here.
