Château Valandraud er et bemærkelsesværdigt vinslot, der er blevet til virkelighed takket være det utrættelige arbejde fra et lidenskabeligt vinægtepar, Murielle Andraud og Jean Luc Thunevin. Slottet blev ydmygt grundlagt i 1991 på en beskeden 0,6 hektar stor grund i dalen Fongaban, som de købte med hele deres opsparing.
Siden den beskedne begyndelse, hvor druerne blev vinificeret i en garage omdannet til et vineri, er Château Valandraud vokset betydeligt. Markerne strækker sig nu over 10,70 hektar på plateauet af ler og kalksten i Saint Etienne de Lisse. Vingårdens beplantning er mangfoldig med 70 % Merlot, 25 % Cabernet Franc og 5 % Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dusinvis af dedikerede medarbejdere arbejder året rundt i både vingårdene og vineriet for at skabe den bedst mulige vin, år efter år. Christophe Lardière overvåger vinteamet, mens Rémi Dalmasso, ønolog, tager sig af vineriet. De arbejder tæt sammen med Murielle Andraud og Jean Luc Thunevin for at styre vinmarken og vinfremstillingen. Based on 84% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2025 Château Valandraud is aging in 90% new French oak and has a dense purple hue as well as captivating aromatics of juicy red, blue, and black fruits, graphite, spring flowers, and an ultra-classic lead pencil character. Hitting 14% natural alcohol with a pH of 3.5, it’s concentrated and full-bodied on the palate, with incredible purity and a more restrained, elegant style than previous vintages. It has plenty of classic Valandraud greatness.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Valandraud storms from the glass with powerful notes of preserved plums, baked black cherries, and cedar chest, followed by suggestions of sandalwood, camphor, and crushed rocks. The medium- to full-bodied palate is filled with decadent black fruit preserves flavors, framed by firm yet velvety tannins and crisp tension, finishing very long and opulent. Classic Valandraud that won’t disappoint fans.
The 2025 Valandraud is breathtaking. Its the first vintage made by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Marie Lefévère together. It therefore represents a changing of the guard, now that Lefévère and her husband, Christophe, have taken full ownership of the property after many years holding a minority stake. Vibrant and explosive in the glass, the 2025 Valandraud offers an exotic mélange of dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and mocha.
