Château Pavie Macquin, fra Saint-Émilion, har en dyb og fascinerende historie. Navnet stammer fra ejernes bedstefar, Albert Macquin (1852-1911), som indførte podning af vinstokke og reddede dermed vinmarkerne, der var blevet ødelagt af druebladlusen.
Dette familieejede slot har en enestående beliggenhed på det højeste plateau i Saint-Émilion. I slutningen af 1994 blev Nicolas Thienpont udnævnt som forvalter af ejendommen.
Château Pavie Macquin er kendt for at udtrykke jordens hemmeligheder i sine vine. Den kraftfulde, fyldige karakter kombineret med mineralitet, friskhed og generøsitet afspejler det unikke terroir, hvor ler hviler på kalksten.
Vingårdens druesammensætning, med en overvægt af Merlot, er nøje udvalgt for at matche de stærke lerjordforhold.

Perfumed and clear, with aromas of raspberries, flowers and citrus. Medium-bodied, showing fine tannins and a tangy finish with salty undertones. A linear and complex wine with unique balance. 14.1% alcohol. 78% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon.
Cherries, plums, tobacco, cinnamon, spearmint, and cigar box aromatics get you instantly focused on the nose. The palate is plush, polished, creamy, elegant, and fresh. The berries display refinement, and purity. The concentrated finish lingers with its blend of vivid, and refreshing mint, tobacco, spice, black raspberries, and Morelleo cherries. To be able to achieve the balance between fruit, and the dynamic freshness in the wine, the late August rains were a huge help. Without that added moisture, alcohol levels would have been higher, along with less maturity for the grapes. The wine blends 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.2% ABV, 3.35 pH. The harvest took place September 12 - September 25. Yield were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2029-2060.
Quite dark liquorice, black chocolate and toasted notes on the nose, round and softly plump with fleshy tannins and a really bright, almost brisk core of crunchy. cranberry-edged acidity. Straightforward with a structured frame of firm tannins and toasted oak. It’s not yet harmonised and the acidity is quite accentuated which is almost always the case but I do like the generous and friendly tannins which make it that little bit more soft and charming.
