Montrose i klassisk højspænding
Château Montrose er 2. Grand Cru Classé i Saint-Estèphe og en af de store, historiske venstrebredsadresser med direkte udsyn til Gironde. Martin og Olivier Bouygues overtog ejendommen i 2006 og satte gang i en omfattende modernisering, hvor teknisk præcision, miljøhensyn og arkitektonisk ambitionsniveau blev samlet i et nyt arbejdsredskab for det 90 hektar store sammenhængende terroir. Siden 2022 har Pierre Graffeuille stået i spidsen for SCDM Domaines de la Famille Bouygues sammen med Charlotte Bouygues.

2025 markerer tredje årgang, hvor Grand Vin udelukkende kommer fra Terrasse IV, den historiske kerne foran slottet. Ifølge anmeldermaterialet er blendet 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot og 4% Cabernet Franc, med høst fra 29. august til 20. september og 60% ny eg under modningen.

Martin beskriver en intens og klassisk Montrose, hvor grafit gennemtrænger den sorte frugt. Frugtrenheden er ifølge ham exceptionel, og paletten er medium-bodied med smidige, meget mejslede tanniner, sort frugt, mineralitet, friskhed og vibrans. Han kalder den en Montrose “for the ages”, og det er netop den type vurdering, der passer til slottets mest alvorlige udtryk.

Kelley ser 2025 som en kommende tidløs klassiker. Mørke bær, sort trøffel, glødende embers og violer folder sig ud i glasset, efterfulgt af en full-bodied, tæt og elegant muskuløs palet med lag, dimensioner, dyb frugtkerne, usædvanlig tanninkvalitet og lang resonans. Han fremhæver, at vinen trods sin kraft holder en klassisk balance ved 13,4% alkohol og pH 3,65.

Perrotti-Brown beskriver knuste solbær, brombær, morbær, knust sten, sorte oliven, violer, skovbund og garrigue. Paletten er mere delikat i vægten, men fast, finkornet og muskuløs, med frisk linje og en lang, jordet afslutning.

Anson kalder 2025 en ekstremt klassisk Montrose, med cassis, kakaobønne, lakrids, knust mynteblad, squid ink og crayon. Hun fremhæver vinen som udpræget venstrebredsk i sin præcision og energi. Hindle ser samme kølige mineralitet, med solbær, viol, kirsebær, jordbær, lakrids, cola og våde sten i en mere seriøs, terroirgennemsigtig Montrose.

Montrose 2025 er ikke bred luksus. Den er Saint-Estèphe i rank, mørk og grafitdrevet form: Cabernet, Terrasse IV, struktur og kølig energi. En vin bygget til lang udvikling, men allerede tydelig i sin arkitektur.

    The 2025 Montrose only comes from the Terrace IV, as has been the way since the 2023 vintage. It was picked from August 29 and finished not until September 20, so quite a long harvest, 16 days of picking between those dates. This vintage is matured in 60% new oak. This has another very intense nose with a potent graphite element that infuses the black fruit, beautifully defined but unapologetically classical in style. Wow. The purity of fruit is exceptional. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, very chiselled tannins, exquisite black fruit loaded with minéralité. So much freshness and vibrancy, gentle but insistent grip, very precise and refined on the finish, this is a Montrose that will rank as one for the ages. Wow (again).

Concentrated, deep, dark, and energetic, there is a sophisticated, lushness that delivers its regal tendencies while coating your mouth and palate with multiple layers of supple, rich, waves of black fruits, spice, and chocolate. Montrose is on quite the run. Just when you think they cannot produce a better wine, they come out with the 2025! This is the third vintage produced entirely from vines planted in Terrasse 4. The wine blends 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. 13.4% ABV, pH 3.65 pH. Harvesting took place August 29 - September 20. This is the earliest start to harvest in the history in the history of the estate. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2032-2070.

Château Montrose

2. Cru Classé slottet Château Montrose udgør, side om side med Cos d'Estournel, den absolutte 1. division i appellationen Saint-Estéphe. Château Montrose er altid en meget kraftfuld og koncentreret oplevelse. En vin der ofte forgudes af vinanmeldere verden over, og som ofte ses omtalt som Latour fra Saint-Estèphe. Château Montrose er en stabil vin, der aldrig skuffer, og vinen er gennem de seneste år blevet er ret oplagt investeringsvin, der giver et sikkert og stabilt afkast, hvis man da overhovedet formå at få fingrene i vinen i ”en primeur” handlen. Det er nemlig en eftertragtet sag.

Slottet kan føre sin historie tilbage til slutningen af 1700-tallet, hvor ejendomme opstod som en udskillelse fra Château Calon-Ségur. I de første omkring 100 år blev slottet ejet af familien Dumoulin. Det lykkedes i 1855 for familien at få slottet klassificeret som 2. Cru, mens Calon-Ségur måtte nøjes med en klassifikation som 3. Cru. Endnu 2 ejere har været rundt om Château Montrose i tiden efter. Men i dag er det brødrene Martin og Olivier Bouyges, der ejer Montrose. De har skabt sig en formue via deres store entreprenørforretning. Og en mindre formue var der da også brug for, da de købte slottet i 2006.

Château Montrose har 68 hektar vinmarker, der ligger i en samlet blok omkring slottet. Det er stort set den sammen størrelse, som da slottet blev klassificeret i 1855.
