Château de Fonbel ligger på den sydlige del af Saint-Émilion-sletten og har siden 1971 været ejet af den berømte Vauthier-familie, som også står bag Château Ausone. Ejendommen fungerer som et laboratorium for nytænkning – et sted, hvor Alain og Pauline Vauthier forfiner deres håndværk med samme præcision og omtanke som på familiens Grand Cru Classé A-slot.

Årgangen er sammensat af 83 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon og 5 % Carmenère – et sjældent strejf af den historiske Bordeaux-drue, der tilfører vinens mørke frugt og krydrede noter ekstra karakter. Resultatet er en rund og indbydende Saint-Émilion med modne bær, let krydderi og en saftig struktur, der vidner om stor omhu i både mark og kælder.

This ripe, textured, medium to full-bodied 2022 has beautiful tannins and outstanding length. I like it today, and it should have 10-12 years, if not slightly longer, of prime drinking.

    Really fruit-forward on the nose, with ripe dark cherries and a touch of graphite. Quite firm and nicely chewy on the palate, with an almost full body and a tight yet lengthy finish. Quite flavorful and ripe, but solid and fresh at the same time. Drink from 2027.
