Familien von Neipperg har dyrket vin i mere end otte århundreder, og under Stephan von Neippergs kyndige ledelse har ejendommen genvundet sin plads blandt de mest elegante og raffinerede i Bordeaux. Her mødes ler-, kalk- og sandjord i et usædvanligt terroir, hvor både Merlot og Cabernet trives side om side og opnår en bemærkelsesværdig balance.

Årgang 2022 – 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc og 15% Cabernet Sauvignon – udtrykker slottets signatur: forening af kraft og finesse. The finish is juicy and savory. 35% cabernet franc, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot. From organically grown grapes. Attractive already but needs at least three or four years to come around.

Ripe blackberries, black cherries, leafy herbs, scorched earth, and floral notes define the aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, it’s vibrant and focused on the palate, with ripe tannins and a pure, seamless mouthfeel. This exotic, perfumed, lifted, spicy wine will benefit from time in the cellar.as of black cherries and lavender. Some sandalwood. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are polished and beautiful, this wine has lovely length and freshness. 45% cabernet franc, 35% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon. Enjoyable now, but better in two or three years.

Château Canon la Gaffelière

Château Canon La Gaffelière ligger for foden af plateauet, syd for den middelalderlige landsby Saint-Émilion og jordbunden består af ler-kalksten og ler-sandjord.

Château Canon La Gaffelière er en gammel ejendom med vinavlshistorie, der dateres tilbage til det 17. århundrede, da Comte de Malets-Roqueforts købte stedet, og lejede store dele ud til vinbønder. Da familien Boitard de la Poterie senere købte en del af jorden og dyrkede det, der blev kendt som Canon-Boitard, blev familiens resterende jord omdannet til Château La Gaffelière.

I 1971 blev godset købt af grev Joseph-Hubert von Neipperg, og i 1985 nedarvet til hans søn, grev Stephan von Neipperg, den nuværende indehaver. Hans andre ejendomme inkluderer Clos de l'Oratoire og La Mondotte. 

Godsets konsulent er den anerkendte selvlærte ønolog Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Valget af druesorter er ret atypisk for apellationen: næsten et perfekt 50/50 mix mellem Merlot og Cabernet. Cabernet modnes tidligt og bemærkelsesværdigt godt på Canon La Gaffelières varme jord og tilføjer kraft og aromatisk kompleksitet til Merlots overdådighed for at skabe vine med naturlig elegance og finesse.
