Vieux Château Certan 2019 er et højdepunkt i moderne Pomerol – en vin med sjælden balance mellem kraft, præcision og poesi. Blendet består af 78% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc og 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, høstet fra den 23. september til 3. oktober under ideelle forhold.

Duften er forførende og kompleks med nuancer af solbær, viol, mørke kirsebær og et strejf af trøffel og orientalske krydderier. Smagen er dyb og sømløs, båret af silkefine tanniner og en vibrerende friskhed, der giver vinen både struktur og lethed. Full-bodied, ample and layered, it's seamless and enveloping, with a fleshy core of beautifully vibrant fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, resonant finish, this perfumed, sensual Vieux Château Certan is a remarkable achievement from Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont.

Full-bodied with incredible polish and beauty, the silky tannins running the length of the wine and going on and on. It builds with sheer elegance and structure. A blend of 78% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 7% cabernet sauvignon. Drink after 2028, but already a joy to taste.

    The 2019 Vieux Château Certan was picked from September 23 after light showers the previous day. "We dared to add some Cabernet Sauvignon in 2019, which gives complexity," Alexandre Thienpont remarks, "but the Cabernet was 'killed' in 2020." It has a much more discrete bouquet than the 2018, unfolding with truffle-tinged black fruit. There are fewer marmalade scents than I noticed a couple of years ago, but there is absolutely stunning delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, like a cousin of the superlative 2016 in many ways, but it may be silkier towards the finish. Elegant yet paradoxically intense, this is VCC at full flight. And it's only on its opening pages! Tasted at the VCC vertical in Etikhove, Belgium.

Vieux Château Certan

Vieux Château Certan er en af de ældste ejendomme i Pomerol. Den blev grundlagt i begyndelsen af det 16. århundrede, hvor Demay familien ankom fra Skotland for at bosætte sig i Bordeauxregionen. Ejendommen optræder så tidligt som i 1785 på Belleymes kort over området. På den tid var navnet imidlertid "Sertan".
 
I 1858 overtog Charles de Bousquet ejendommen, og det var ham der opførte det nuværende slot, der på smukkeste vis præger vines etikette. I 1924 blev slottet og de tilhørende marker atter omsat, da den flamske vinhandler Georges Thienpont købte Vieus Château Certan, og det er i dag i samme families eje.
 
Vinmarkerne på Vieux Château Certan dækker et areal på 14 hektar, der er plantet i en enkelt blok, der er opdelt i 23 forskellige parceller, som alle håndteres individuelt alt afhængig af undergrund, druesorter og vinstokkenes alder. Undergrunden varierer meget fra lerholdig, der hovedsagelig er beplantet med Merlot til en kombinations af grus og ler, hvor Cabernet Franc dominerer. Endvidere har findes et meget grusholdigt plantet, der er beplantet med Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinstokkene har en gennemsnitsalder på over 50 år.
