Carruades de Lafite er andenvinen fra det legendariske Château Lafite Rothschild i Pauillac – skabt med samme omhu og præcision som Grand Vin, men med en blødere og mere umiddelbar karakter. Druerne kommer hovedsageligt fra slottets yngre vinstokke, som med tiden vil bidrage til Lafite selv. Disse parceller, blandt dem Grande Horte, Barat og Gandeau, danner fundamentet for en vin, der allerede i sin ungdom viser dybde, balance og finesse.

Årgang 2020 er sammensat af 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc og 3% Petit Verdot, høstet mellem 9. og 29. september. Vinen byder på en generøs duft af solbær, modne blommer og fine noter af cedertræ og grafit. I munden er den rund, silkeagtig og præcis, med en forførende friskhed og en lang, elegant eftersmag. Carruades 2020 markerer et sjældent højt indslag af Merlot, hvilket giver ekstra rundhed og charme – et smukt udtryk for Lafites stil i en stor årgang.

Looking at the vintage, the harvest occurred all in September, and their second wine, the 2020 Carruades De Lafite, is based on 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that was raised in 90% new French oak. The alcohol hit 13% and the pH is 3.84. It's much more open and expressive than the Grand Vin and offers beautiful darker red and black fruits as well as leafy tobacco, cedar pencil, and spicy nuances. Medium-bodied, layered, and concentrated, it has the vintage's more structured, firm feel on the palate, rock-solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age but will evolve for two decades.

Les Carruades de Lafite

Carruades de Lafite er andenvinen fra det legendariske Château Lafite Rothschild, men den har sine egne rødder og sin egen historie. Navnet stammer fra plateau des Carruades – et højtliggende område med dyb leret grusjord, som blev opkøbt af Lafite-familien i slutningen af 1800-tallet. I begyndelsen blev druerne herfra vinificeret separat, og Carruades eksisterede som et selvstændigt vinmarksvin. Senere blev parcellerne en del af Château Lafites Grand Vin, inden navnet igen blev genfødt som betegnelsen for slottets andenvin.

Vinmarkerne ligger som et naturligt amfiteater mellem skov og marsk, beskyttet af det unikke mikroklima, der kendetegner Pauillac. Her vokser Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon og en smule Cabernet Franc på jorder, der har været formet af Girondeflodens aflejringer gennem tusinder af år. Høsten foregår i hånden, og vinificeringen sker i en kombination af træ-, cement- og ståltanke. Efter malolaktisk gæring modnes vinen i 16 måneder på franske egetræsfade fra Lafites eget bødkeri, Tonnellerie des Domaines. Carruades de Lafite deler husets signatur af finesse og længde, men adskiller sig med en lidt højere andel Merlot, som giver en blødere, mere tilgængelig stil – et elegant ekko af Lafite Rothschilds store vin.
